The authentic tastes of Italy come to life at Amalfi's Ristorante Italiano

By Lynette Carrington

There’s Italian food and then there’s genuine Italian food. Brothers Giuseppe and Sergio Miele own and operate Amalfi’s Ristorante Italiano. Part of what makes the beautiful and rustic-looking Amalfi’s dining experience so special is the fact that everything on the on the menu is straight from a family recipe.

Whether you’ve been to Amalfi’s before or you’re a first-time guest, you’ll be welcomed in like family. This is not just another Italian restaurant. Rather, this is a relaxing dining experience where guests are always in for a special treat. Once you step inside the door, you’ll see the large ornately scribed chalk board that provides a descriptive collection of the special dishes for the day and there is always something unique that Amalfi’s has to offer!

Amalfi’s is offering LunchClub.com members 15% off their total lunch purchase or $5 off of a purchase of $30 or more (excluding Amalfi’s regular lunch specials) during non-lunchtime hours.

This summer, there are a few dishes that have been especially popular. The mussels are incredibly fresh, served with a kiss of white wine and garlic sauce and are offered at an exceptional price. The seafood marinara is also a tangy, fresh and tasty combination of shrimp, clams and calamari set atop linguini and topped with Amalfi’s homemade marinara sauce.

While you anxiously wait for food to arrive at your table at Amalfi’s, don’t pass up the complimentary house made bread. Although it may sound funny to sing the praises of house bread, Amalfi’s is simply the freshest and most outstanding bread in the East Valley. Also, don’t miss the drunken shrimp. Made with large fresh shrimp, the sauce is tantalizingly tangy and served with roasted tomatoes and toasted garlic bread baguettes that are perfect for gathering up that last bit of sauce when finished with the dish. “You can have the drunken shrimp or the mussels served as an appetizer or over pasta,” explains Giuseppe Miele who is proudly running the restaurant each day, while his brother Sergio is heading up the cooking staff in the kitchen.

Other dishes on the large menu include salads, chicken, eggplant or shrimp parmigiana, hot and cold hero sandwiches, pizza by the slice or the full pie and a wide variety of pasta dishes. Try penne primavera, spaghetti with homemade meatballs, spinach or cheese ravioli, wild salmon or the gnocchi alla sorrentini, which is absolutely outstanding. Also, don’t miss the seafood risotto, handmade butternut squash ravioli or beef braciola. Several dishes at Amalfi’s come in appetizer and full entrée sizes, so be sure to ask if there is something on the menu that you would like to try in a different size.

Sergio Miele traveled to his native Naples, Italy last year on a delicious trip of discovery to get back to the most traditional flavors and recipes that inspire and drive the menu at Amalfi’s. It’s that unique attention to menu detail, the incorporation of time-tested Miele family recipes and the true love of their restaurant by the Miele brothers that wins customers over and keeps them coming back for more.

“We have a great happy hour,” gushes Giuseppe. “Happy hour runs 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and all day long on Sundays and Mondays.” Enjoy $2.50 domestic bottles and drafts, $3.00 house wine and $4.00 well drinks. While you’re at it, don’t miss the thirst quenching raspberry margarita that was developed by the staff. It’s divine!

“We like it when people come in and take their time and dine with us. Having time to sit down and have a good meal is important,” finishes Giuseppe.
