Brett Hunt is an award-winning actor, producer, director, stand-up comedian and rapper who has created his own destiny through hard work and some ingenuity. He has put the movie industry on notice not only for his acting prowess but for his keen eye for quality projects that he develops and gets involved with through the production company that he founded, Raging Gopher Productions. Through Hunt's widespread industry connections, his founding partner Edwin Mendez and additional partners Bryan Gallinger and Maryn Soref, Raging Gopher will be in production with feature films and TV projects for the next decade.
Hailing from Colorado, Hunt is a highly decorated veteran who served in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army, (Surface, Air, Sub, and Special Ops.). He served in both Gulf Wars in 1990-91, again in 2004 and he is establishing a charity to assist homeless vets. But this is just the beginning of Hunt's Hollywood story. A self-professed geek, he is equal parts entrepreneur, business man and industry insider.
Perhaps a career in the entertainment industry was destiny for Hunt, whose grandmother got him on to local TV show "Blinkey's Fun Club" with hometown hero Blinkey the Clown. The show biz bug bit Hunt when he was a youngster and has never let go. "At 10 years old I discovered the most wonderful thing in the world-magic shops!" explains Hunt. Ever the business man, he funded his magic shop visits by selling candy to his friends at school and booked his first paying gig performing magic for a Girl Scout troop when he was just 14 years old. His performing chops began to emerge.
After his service to our country, he worked for Microsoft, then in banking and finance while he tried to play in the corporate world, but it wasn't Hunt's passion. He started movie review site The Popcorn Review and even tackled the cut-throat world of stand-up comedy, receiving great reviews and even winning awards. "One day I was working in finance and I woke up and said, ‘I can't do this anymore," Hunt remarks of a turning point in 2007. "I called my best friend at the time and said, ‘I think I'm going to quit my job and move to LA.' He goes, ‘Great. Let's do it!'"
Raging Gopher Productions takes its name from the underground. Literally. The cunning gopher from the film ‘Caddyshack' tunneled its way into the production company's heart. "My friends and I-we are a bunch of geeks and nerds and that's where the name came from-the ‘Caddyshack' gopher," Raging Gopher founder Hunt says of his company's name inspiration.
Four upcoming film projects have Hunt juggling a very busy schedule. Film "Cold Sun" is in post-production. The full-length feature stars Hunt in a lead role and follows a prostitute, two convicts, a priest and a movie director as they collide in the California desert of the 1920s.The twisted tale of obsession, greed and betrayal will be directed to film festivals. "'Mangled Angels' is in pre-production. We'll be shooting that soon," says Hunt. Both "Cold Sun" and "Mangled Angels" are Raging Gopher productions.
"I went to Cannes this year and I met a lot of producers and distributors and I took a lot of meetings," Hunt explains. "When I go to these things, I network and work-it's part of my job." He met with Rebel Films and the company had a list of movies queued up for the next few years. Two of those films slated for this year were "Overtime" and "Malevolent." Hunt and the founder of Rebel Films came to an agreement where Hunt will star in the films and Raging Gopher will co-produce each of the two movies, both of which shoot in Bulgaria.
In the next five years, Raging Gopher will also be producing with Platinum Studios. "Moving Pictures Media and Platinum Studios came together to form the Platinum Universe," Hunt explains. "They have a list of graphic novels. Our production company will be co-producing a lot of projects with them over the next five years. Both Edwin and I have franchised into Platinum Studios and Platinum Universe to star in several of their movies."
"As I started being out on my own and doing the audition process I realized there are ways to cut through some of the craziness that is Hollywood." Hunt says, "I didn't want to end up like everybody else so I started studying people that built teams around themselves and had their own entourage-people like Adam Sandler and Mark Wahlberg. I realized early on that they all had production companies. The production companies got them in the door and they went from there." Through Raging Gopher, Hunt and partner Mendez can secure lead roles in quality film productions while circumventing a lot of the industry red tape. They can also effectively get meetings with other production companies and network in a very meaningful way that produces results.
Never one to let grass grow under his feet, Hunt has amassed an AA in Film Production, BS in Business, Masters in Finance and a PhD in Metaphysics. He is also a Certified Master Clinical Hypnotherapist, NLP, Certified Life Coach, Certified EFT Trainer, as well as an Ordained Minister.
